Locktober Day 1: Lock Up Alone, and Do It Properly

Locktober Day 1: Lock Up Alone, and Do It Properly

Welcome to Locktober, and to day one of my 31-day series for men who are locking up alone. There is no keyholder in your house this month, so for the next 31 days I am going to be the voice holding you to it. One task every day, posted here each morning. Read it, do it, and come back tomorrow for your next dose.

Your task today

Lock up with intention. Clean the device, clean yourself, use a little water-based lube, and fit it slowly. Then put the key somewhere you cannot casually reach: a time lock set to the end of the day, a sealed numbered envelope, or with a friend you trust.

Before you seal it away, write one sentence about why you are doing this month. Keep it with the key or somewhere safe. You will read it again on day fifteen. I give you some examples, feel free to change it to your likings;

“I want to find out who I am when the easiest outlet I have is locked away.”

“I want to stop reaching for quick relief every time I feel stressed or bored.”

“I want 31 days of discipline that I can carry into the rest of my year.”

“I am curious how my body and mind feel after a full month without sexual release.”

Why this matters

Locking up alone is easy to do carelessly. You click it shut in the bathroom, drop the key in a drawer, and the month starts as an errand, or worse, like any othe rmonth. Treat it as a ceremony and it starts as a commitment.

The key placement is the whole game when you are solo. A key in your own drawer means every hard evening becomes a negotiation with yourself, and you will lose some of those negotiations. But, a key behind a timer or a seal takes that negotiation off the table, and that is exactly what a keyholder would do for you.

The sentence is for later, specifically around day eighteen, when almost everyone (well, definitely first timers) hits a wall. Your own words from today will do more for you then than anything I can write.

How to set up your key

A time lock is the cleanest option. Set it for a few hours at a time in the first week while you learn how the device behaves, then extend.

A sealed envelope works on honour. Write the date and a number across the seal, so opening it means breaking something visible.

A trusted friend is the strongest option if you have someone who understands what you are doing.

Today's safety check

Whatever you choose, you need a spare key you can reach within a minute in a real emergency. Test it before you lock up. Tonight, check the skin at the ring for redness, and if anything feels sharp, numb, or cold, take it off. That rule sits above everything else in this series.

Tomorrow: building the hygiene routine that will carry you through the whole month. In the meantime, visit my instagram for more locktober content, send me your story, questions, and read about other people's experience.
