Locktober Day 11: What Are You Actually Craving?

Locktober Day 11: What Are You Actually Craving?

Day eleven of my 31-day series for men locking up alone. For ten days you have been writing down your urges and today you ask them what they want.

Your task today

Open your log and find the three strongest urges you have recorded so far. The moments that pulled at you hardest. For each one, write honest answers to three questions:

  1. What was happening right before? Where were you, what time was it, what had just happened?

  2. What were you feeling in the minutes before the urge arrived? Stressed, bored, lonely, restless, flat, wound up, rejected, tired?

  3. What would have actually made that feeling better? Setting release itself aside completely, what did you really need in that moment?

Take your time with the third question. It is the whole point of today.

Why this matters

When release is always available, arousal becomes background noise. It shows up, gets handled, and disappears before you ever ask where it came from. You have spent your whole life answering that feeling so quickly that you never had to understand it.

Locked, you finally get the chance. The urge arrives, and because there is nowhere for it to go, it stays long enough for you to look at it. And very often, what sits underneath is something else entirely.

A need for comfort after a hard day.

A way to switch off when your head is too loud. A wish to feel wanted.

A craving for attention, for closeness, for being seen.

Sometimes a longing to hand control to someone else, or to hold it yourself.

This is why I say a week in a device can be worth a therapy session. You are learning something about your own desire that most men never stop long enough to learn.

Look for the theme

Once you have answered the three questions for all three urges, read your answers side by side. You may find one or two themes repeating. Maybe it is always stress. Maybe it is always loneliness late at night. Maybe it is always wanting to feel desired.

Write that theme in your log in one sentence. That sentence is valuable, and it reaches well beyond Locktober.

What to do with it

Once you know what the urge was really asking for, you can start meeting that need directly. Stress might need a walk or a proper night's sleep. Loneliness might need a phone call with a friend. Wanting to feel desired might tell you something important about what you are looking for in a partner, or in a keyholder one day.

You do not have to fix any of it this month. Understanding it is enough for today.

Tomorrow: building something with the energy. In the meantime, visit my instagram for more locktober content, send me your story, questions, and read about other people's experience.
