Locktober Day 15: The Halfway Ritual
Share
Day fifteen of my 31-day series for men locking up alone. Halfway. Fifteen days locked, sixteen to go. Today is a small ceremony to mark it, and a few decisions that will carry you to the end.
Your task today
This one has three parts. Give it half an hour somewhere quiet.
1. Open your day one sentence. Find the sentence you sealed away with your key on the first day and read it slowly. Then ask yourself honestly whether it is still true. For some men it is exactly right. For others, two weeks have changed the reason. Maybe you started out of curiosity and now it feels like discipline. Maybe you started for discipline and now it feels like something closer to self-knowledge.
If your reason has changed, write the new one underneath the old one. Both belong in your log.
2. Choose your finishing reward. Decide now what you will give yourself for making it to October 31st, and write it down. Make it something you genuinely want, something that feels earned. A dinner at the place you have been meaning to try. A weekend away. A massage. A new device, the one you have been eyeing all month. Whatever it is, knowing exactly what is waiting at the finish line gives the next sixteen days a shape.
3. Set yourself one challenge for day twenty-three. Pick one thing you want to have done by day twenty-three. Something slightly outside your comfort zone, and separate from the device entirely. Finish the project from day twelve. Run a certain distance. Have a conversation you have been avoiding. Write it in your log. On day twenty-three, you will check whether you did it.
Why this matters
A keyholder would mark the halfway point for you. She would sit you down, remind you why you started, and tell you what you are working toward. Alone, you do that for yourself today.
Reading your first sentence connects you to the man who locked up fifteen days ago, and that connection matters in the week ahead. The reward gives you something concrete to move toward, which is far easier to hold onto than willpower alone. And the challenge turns the second half of the month into more than waiting. It gives you something to build while you are locked.
Celebrate a little
Half a month locked, alone, entirely by your own choice. That is a real achievement, and it deserves to be recognised. Write one line in your log about what you are proud of so far. Then enjoy your evening.
Tomorrow: teasing yourself using only your mind. In the meantime, visit my instagram for more locktober content, send me your story, questions, and read about other people's experience.
