Locktober Day 9: Your First Rotation Day
Share
Day nine of my 31-day series for men locking up alone. You have been wearing the same device for over a week, so today you give your skin a break by switching to a different one.
Your task today
During today's hygiene window, give yourself a longer break than usual, around thirty minutes to an hour with the device off. Clean and dry both devices, check your skin carefully, and then lock up in your backup device instead of your usual one.
Wear the backup for the day, or for the next few days if it feels good. Tonight, write in your log how it compares: where it sits differently, how the ring feels, and whether any spot that was getting red has calmed down.
Why this matters
Even a device that fits you perfectly presses against exactly the same patches of skin every single day. After a week or two of continuous wear, those spots start to complain. You might notice redness, soreness, rubbing in one place. It happens with the best cages in the world, simply because the pressure lands in the same place for so long.
Switching devices moves the contact points. The skin that has been taking the pressure gets a chance to recover, and the relief is immediate. Rotating is how men get through a full month comfortably, and it is why I always recommend having more than one device for Locktober.
Which device to rotate to
If this is your first Locktober, keep it simple. Rotate to something of the same type and material as your usual device. Same style of cage but still different contact points. October is a good month to stay with what you know works.
If you have done this before and want to keep things interesting, rotate to something completely different. A soft silicone cage after a steel one might give you a well deserved relief, or a harness instead of a cage if you feel like you need more restraint. The change in sensation can make a routine week feel new again.
If you only have one device
You can still give your skin a break. Take a longer rest window today, a full hour if your key setup allows it, and apply a little unscented moisturiser to any area that has been rubbing, letting it absorb completely before you lock back up. Then use this as your reminder to get a backup ready for day twenty, when your second rotation day comes around.
Today's safety check
A new device needs the same attention as your first did on day one. Go back to my Day 1 post, check the ring fit before you close the lock, and look at your skin again tonight. A different device means different pressure points, so watch for any new redness in places that were fine before.
Tomorrow: putting that restless energy into your body. In the meantime, visit my instagram for more locktober content, send me your story, questions, and read about other people's experience.
